“The ruler of Marsall town area to Vila Estelar. She is confident but impulsive. She generally wants the best for her country/towns, even if she doesn’t always pick the best way to do it. She is pretty stern though and can be rather cruel at times. She’s rich and will take advantage of this fact, as she has many servants.”

For info on that.
Does not include animations, so no spritesheet requests or anything! I also do not have plans to join any projects so no requests of that nature either!
I want to raise up $60 for I-Con which is going to happen in the 26th, 27th and 28th of this month. The ticket is rather expensive but I should be able to cover for the things I want to buy.

Mainsite up!
The mainsite has been there for a while, but just now I decided to make it functional. It has links to Paradise Blue, Island Sky, and some Azulea info. It will also link back to this and the pixel blog. Finally, one thing down on my to do list!

Which is already the first question: how many collectibles should there be in a game. I always like to link to this ancient Penny Arcade comic because even back then it was already evident that this mechanic is being abused by many modern games. And it got even worse when achievements and online unlockables arrived. Red Faction: Guerrilla lives up to that cliché… and then some. You collect: ore deposits, radio tags, propaganda billboards and supply crates. The game also keeps track of and rewards you for completing all side-missions, races and demolishon challenges.
I thought this was an interesting read, as I haven’t played the game so it’s nice to see what games do it right and what doesn’t.
I’ll put my own thoughts on it. I find that collectables can help make exploring more fun to do since you’re exploring with a purpose rather than wandering aimlessly. I like to reward a player for either each one they get, or set a small amount of them they need to find so it doesn’t seem like the goal is too far away. Also, rewards don’t necessarily have to be usable things, they can be silly things or give a little more detail about the world you’re in. So if a player is only playing for x reason, they don’t need to feel forced to collect these things if they don’t want to, but the players that do can be rewarded for it as well.

Happy new year!
Update on Pixel Tutorial, me making icons in MS Paint. I need to get a video recording program so I can record another pixel progress thing sometime.
I was in NYC for the week of New years. I visited Kaede and Immortal, and while it didn’t all go according to plan, I still had fun. It was nice to meet them.
So now that I’m back on my computer, I am working on sprites for one project, tilesets for another, tilesets for another, working on my project, job hunting, and other things as well. Busy busy.
Azulea wise, I am now waiting for the story from Nessiah, as she volunteered to help me with it. Once I get that, I can go ahead and work on the game and plan out what will go where. I need a tileset for the school interior and exterior as I have a new design for it (brick buildings are boring).

Me fighting an optional boss in Paradise Blue. I couldn’t record sound in the video (figures) so I just placed an mp3 of the boss music for that fight as the background music. Thanks to Dajhail for making it into an mp3 for me, with my computer, I don’t have everything set up yet to be able to do that on my own.
